FINAL SOLUTION TO CAMP CLOSING
Colleen Graffy, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy, described the suicides of three detainees at the US base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, as a "good PR move to draw attention.”
She said the prisoners, held for years without charges or trials, had plenty of opportunity to protest, and that taking their own lives was unnecessary.
This civilian diplomatic approach did not quite match that of Camp commander Rear Adm. Harry Harris. The BBC quoted him, “I believe this was not an act of desperation, but an act of warfare waged against us.”
Guards have now been instructed to shoot on sight any prisoners found attempting suicide.
STAND-DOWN STAND-UP STANDOFF
Immediately after the new Iraqi prime minister said Iraqis would be able to defend and sustain themselves by the end of 2007, Mr. Bush demurred, reversing his earlier pledge to have our troops stand down when the Iraqis could stand up.
Bush redecided again, rejected the claim of the Prime Minister, and said we would not withdraw our troops until victory had been won.
Or the Democrats take over the Congress.
SANCTUARY! SANCTUARY!
New legislation being Bush-pushed would offer amnesty to all the people who have already committed, or may yet commit criminal acts under the illegal direction of an administration busily engaged in programs that violate the constitution.
I protest! The above is not a snide comment; it is a news report. How the hell am I going to top it?
In a related story, it was reported that Dick Cheney chuckled, and three dealers who had provided dope to a very very high official and his kids started advertising openly on the web.
FAIR AND UNBALANCED
George W was misquoted. When he spoke of a troop drawdown, he was speaking as he always had, of the coalition of the willing. Indeed, it was no secret that the others in the coalition had been drawing down and bailing out. That, combined with the growing insurgencies, forced our wise, heroic, noble leader to increase U.S. forces in Iraq.
Unfortunately, we do not have that many more available troops. As advertised, we have “An Army of One,” and “The Few, the Proud, the Marines.” That’s only four. How much better could you whining complainers do?!
However, George V – check that, George W’s Iraq war is so popular with Americans that people are volunteering by the hundreds of thous …; check that; by the tens of – check that; Halliburton will hire all the troops we need on a cost-plus – check that; on a cost-multiplied basis.
DAM IT ALL
In China, a giant dam has blocked the River of Three Gorges, creating a lake that could devastate one hundred million people were it to fail.
In the United States, Damocrats are on a mission to save many more people at risk from the failures of just one dam George.
IDLE THOUGHT
If I’m sitting with Dick Cheney, can anyone find me?
