It took the Christian Church about 400 years to admit they were wrong when they condemned Copernicus and Galileo and cooked Bruno on February 16, 1600, for insisting that the earth revolved around the sun, but only 150 years passed before the Vatican has now conceded that Darwin’s theory of evolution may have been right after all.
In both cases, however, the church leaders pointed out that it was all part of God’s plan.
One can only pray that they receive other parts of the plan more promptly.
Michael Phelps, the famed 8 gold-medal Olympic winner, made more news when a picture of him inhaling marijuana fumes came to the attention of a small time Sheriff in South Carolina, where the incident took place.
Many conservatives are supporting the righteous sheriff and attacking Phelps, saying that celebrity is no excuse from criminal punishment.
Michael’s mistake was not using an illegal substance at a party with the loveable Bush twins, whose only punishment for using coke was to be driven home by the accommodating sheriff who arrested them.
No such luck for lesser celebrity Michael. The hot-dog sheriff after him actually had his boys raid a house with their guns pointing at kids and their parents to gather evidence proving Michael was a willing participant in the pot-smoking caper, something that Michael had already admitted publicly.
Maybe all that Richland County’s best wanted was to prove that Phelps was innocent, so that he could get him for lying when he said he had inhaled.
This gun totin’ lawman will next be heard from after ordering his deputy bohunks to shoot jaywalkers on sight.
Michael is now being threatened with arrest by this celebrity-hating, no-nonsense no-brain badge man, whose only motivation seems to be a desire to make a name for himself.
He’ll probably make it. Unfortunately the name is horse’s ass.
