NUREMBERG LIVES!
Spain refuses to try the creators and managers of our torture program, saying that the only ones guilty are the people who carried out the torture – the hands-on troops that were following orders.
The U.S. refuses to try the troops that were just following orders they were informed were legal by the justice department and their superior officers.
That’s what called equal injustice under the law.
AIR PURIFIER
Reaction was swift to the Obama proposal that Congress should take immediate targeted action to fight against global warming and to improve the air quality for the good of humanity - or face the reality of sweeping decrees from the dreaded Environmental Protection Agency.
A spokesman for the National Association of Manufacturers opted for Congressional action, where he predicted and hoped for a “robust” debate. He declared that his Association would focus its lobbying efforts on the 100-member Senate rather than on the 435-member House.
It just shows you how the economy has hit even the big guys. It’s a lot cheaper to buy a few filibuster-breaking votes in the Senate than 218 in the House.
It has now been revealed that the official Bush administration position was that waterboarding was not a form of torture, despite the fact that some people could die because of it.
They are absolutely right. Waterboarding is the compassionate conservative’s idea of R&R.
That’s Rest in peace and Resurrection.
2003-2009 A.D.
Wu and the other Republicans, who not only conceived but also pushed through the torture laws, said that it was well within the guidelines of the Far Right coalition, and was a blessing to the waterboarded.
It was incorporated in their fight for the Right To Life – After Death.
According to the New England Journal of Medicine, some scientists predicted (while others had scoffed) that the rapidly expanding study of the human genome might make DNA a great method of finding changes responsible for common diseases. It turns out the doubters were right and the believers were wrong.
The believers and the scoffers of disease predictability should drop the gene search, kiss and make up. That will give them more positive results.
GM just announced the recall of about one and one half million cars because of possible fires breaking out in them.
I apologize for all the criticism I have hurled at the GM execs for their lousy cars and sales over the past years. Now I understand that they were only trying to hold down the number of recalls.
Or maybe they thought that one way to avoid bankruptcy was to have a fire sale.
A new Afghan law gives a married man the right to withhold food from his wife if she refuses to have sex with him.
If you see a skinny Afghan lady, that’s not a fashion statement: all you know is that her husband isn’t getting any.

FINISH EVERYTHING ON YOUR PLATE
Did you know that Chinese kids are urged by their parents to eat everything on their plate with the rationale, “Eat all your food, don’t you know that there are people in Detroit who are starving to death?”
American manufacturers anxious to sell into the great Chinese and growing India markets are labeling their products, Made in Canada. This is to overcome the Chinese aversion to cheap USA merchandise.
The Chinese government is outlawing the practice of using worthless US money to light their cigarettes. This is part of their campaign to stop smoking.
PULL AND PUSH
Despite the fact that the Iraq war cost has climbed to $695 billion (and still counting), that county is imploding before we have completed our victory lap.
Remember that wheeze about we will stand down when the Iraqis stand up?
Scratch that. Our Generals are blocking the exit door for our troops, claiming they are needed a while longer because of flaring sectarian fighting.
How much longer is hard to figure when you consider that these people have been killing each other for over a thousand years.
We might get out a bit sooner if a few of our Generals got killed. I guess while everyone else is standing up or standing down, these guys are just crouching.
Morale among our brave military fighters in Iraq held in Iraq is exceptionally high. Maybe that’s because they know if they get pulled out of Iraq they may get pushed in to Afghanistan.
BUSHAMASTAN
The only thing differentiating Bush from Obama in Afghanistan is that Barack will tell us how much that stupid adventure is costing us.
DISCUSSING, TEXAS STYLE
The Texas Board of Education approved books that will go against science by suggesting that Texans should be allowed to “discuss” Darwin’s theory of evolution.
What they really mean is that they will both dis and cuss Darwin.
These books will be used for the next 10 years in Texas schools – as doorstops.
The one factor that prevents this from becoming an educational disaster is that it is unlikely that any group that elects doofusses like the Texas school board can read anyway.
